Landscape Protection and Management (PhD.)

Landscape Protection and Management is a doctoral study program focused on the protection and sustainable use of landscape, natural and cultural resources, ecosystems, and biodiversity. It prepares specialists for scientific research, evaluation of landscape processes, and design of solutions for a sustainable landscape of the future.

About the Program

Are you interested in landscape, nature conservation, biodiversity, and finding solutions to environmental challenges associated with climate change?

Landscape Protection and Management is a joint doctoral study program that integrates knowledge from agriculture, forestry, and landscape engineering into a unified concept of sustainable landscape development.

The program is focused on deep scientific and practical understanding of the protection and sustainable use of natural and cultural resources, ecosystems, biodiversity, and ecological processes in the landscape.

How is the program focused?

The program emphasizes comprehensive understanding of landscape processes, relationships between natural and anthropogenic factors, and the search for innovative solutions to environmental challenges.

Core Courses

What will you learn to do?

Research Leading to a Sustainable Landscape

The study is built on the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical applications in the field of landscape protection, restoration, and rational use. It prepares specialists capable of addressing complex environmental problems and contributing to the formation of a sustainable landscape of the future.

At the conclusion of the study, the doctoral student publishes scientific papers that contribute through original research to expanding the boundaries of scientific knowledge at the national or international level.

What will you work with during your studies?

During your studies, you will focus on topics that integrate nature conservation, landscape ecology, research, geodata, and assessment of environmental processes:

Scientific and Practical Dimensions

The program integrates modern approaches to landscape assessment, monitoring, and management. It utilizes information technologies, remote sensing, and modeling of landscape processes, while responding to environmental challenges associated with climate change.

Where the program will take you

A graduate of the doctoral study program Landscape Protection and Management is prepared to work as a research scientist at universities with ecological, agricultural, or biological focus, at selected institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and in departmental research institutes.

They will also find employment as a nature and landscape protection specialist in professional organizations of the environmental sector, state administration, and local government, where they will be capable of proposing and evaluating measures aimed at improving the state of the environment and ecosystem restoration.

Significant employment opportunities will also be found in the private sector as an expert in environmental impact assessment, environmental consultant, or project manager in the field of landscape planning, territorial development, and climate change adaptation.

What makes the program unique?

Doctoral Research

The program develops the ability to independently conduct research focused on landscape processes, landscape protection and use.

Interdisciplinary Focus

Integrates agriculture, forestry, and landscape engineering into the concept of sustainable landscape development.

Modern Assessment Methods

Utilizes information technologies, remote sensing, geodata, and modeling of landscape processes.
